When manufacturers of explosion-proof electrical equipment are considering selling their products to other countries around the world, it is important to understand and comply with the explosion-proof requirements of various countries.

Today, let's summarize the explosion-proof certifications worldwide.

Explosion-proof certification is the work used to determine that equipment meets the requirements of explosion-proof standards, type tests and routine tests for adaptation, and issue relevant certificates of conformity. Certificates can be for Ex equipment or Ex components.

Equipment and protective systems used in explosive gas atmospheres must comply with a number of regulations, standards and directives in order to enter the global trade market.

At present, how are explosion-proof certifications worldwide classified?

EU's ATEX certification, using EN standards

The ATEX Explosion-Proof Directive 2014/34/EU, which regulates equipment and protective systems used in potentially explosive atmospheres, is a mandatory regulation among EU member states. Hazardous locations or explosion-proof equipment intended to be installed in the EU must comply with the ATEX Directive 2014/ 34/EU.

The ATEX Directive ensures the free movement of goods throughout the EU by harmonizing compliance procedures. Once the product has passed the directive and obtained the conformity certification, it can be affixed with the CE mark and the Ex mark pattern.

IECEx certification by the International Electrotechnical Commission, using IEC standards

The purpose of IECEx certification is to establish an international certification system for explosion-proof products, so that explosion-proof products have unified standards, certificates and marks in the audit, and through the mechanism of multi-country transfer certificates, products that meet the specifications can quickly enter the markets of various countries, thereby promoting international trade. .

Under the IECEx system, only accredited certification bodies (ExCB) and testing laboratories (ExTL) are accepted for certification under the system.

CIS region (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan) CU-TR certification, the standard adopted is similar to IEC

Custom Union Technical Regulation Certification, also known as Customs Union Technical Regulation Certification, its certification mark is EAC, so the English abbreviation is CU-TR certification or EAC certification.

Since February 15, 2013, the EAC (Eurasian Conformity) Ex certification is required in order to gain access to the Customs Union (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan) for hazardous location products. The EAC Ex certificate indicates compliance with the Customs Union Technical Regulation TP TC 012/2011 Directive on Technical Specifications for the Safety of Explosion-Proof Equipment.

North America (US and Canada)

North American local explosion-proof certification such as UL, FM, etc., mainly adopts the standard of NEC in this region.

Explosion-proof certification in China

China Compulsory Product Certification (hereinafter referred to as CCC certification) is a mandatory certification standard formulated to protect national security, prevent fraud, protect human health or safety, protect animal and plant life or health, and protect the environment. After being certified and marked with the certification mark, it can be manufactured, sold, imported or used in other business activities.

According to the State Administration for Market Regulation No. 34 of 2019, from October 1, 2019, explosion-proof electrical products are included in the scope of CCC certification management. Since October 1, 2020, explosion-proof electrical products have not obtained the compulsory product certification certificate and have not marked the compulsory certification mark, and shall not leave the factory, sell, import or use in other business activities.

The CCC certification catalogue of explosion-proof electrical products includes class I, class II and class III explosion-proof electrical products. The product categories include: explosion-proof motors; explosion-proof electric pumps; explosion-proof power distribution products; explosion-proof switches, control and protection products; explosion-proof starter products ;Explosion-proof transformer products;Explosion-proof electric actuators, solenoid valves products;Explosion-proof plug-in devices;Explosion-proof monitoring products;Explosion-proof communication and signal devices;Explosion-proof air conditioning, ventilation equipment; Instrument products; explosion-proof sensors; safety barrier products; explosion-proof instrument box products.

The certification mode of CCC certification of explosion-proof electrical products is: type test + initial factory inspection + supervision after certification. The certificate is valid for five years, and the validity of the certificate is maintained by the supervision after the certificate is obtained.

ECASEx in UAE country

ECASEx (Emirates Conformity Assessment System Ex) is a mandatory certification required by ESMA (Emirates Authority For Standardization & Metrology) for electrical equipment used in potentially explosive atmospheres. The ECASEx certificate is valid for 1 year.

INMETRO in Latin America

The INMETRO mark administered by the national audit organization in Brazil is a mandatory certification, and manufacturers need to apply for INMETRO certification according to the local decree Portaria 179:2010, which regulates the use of equipment in hazardous locations.

Taiwan Ts

The Ministry of Labor of the Executive Yuan entrusts the Industrial Technology Research Institute, a consortium, to carry out the type inspection of explosion-proof products, test explosion-proof products in accordance with the CNS 3376 series of regulations, and issue explosion-proof certificates. It also accepts IECEx certificates and reports, and enters Taiwan in the form of transfer certificates. market.

Australia ANZEx

Australia (Australia and New Zealand) directly recognizes IECEx certificates.

Japan TIIS

Japan Industrial Safety Technology Association (TIIS) is an explosion-proof electrical equipment verification organization designated by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan. If you hold the relevant IEC 60079 certification, test reports and technical documents, you can apply for a written review, exempt from repeated testing, and the validity period of the type inspection certificate is 3 years.

Korean KCs

If the manufacturer has obtained the IECEx certificate, he can apply for the Korean KC certificate with the certificate, test report and technical documents, or can be exempted from repeated testing. There are currently three major institutions that issue KC certificates: KGS, KOSHA and KTL. The certificate holder must be a company registered in Korea.

Saudi SASO

The Certificate of Conformity (CoC) issued by a certification body authorized by the Saudi Arabian Standards Organization (SASO) provides access to Saudi Arabia based on the IECEx certificate.
